Paul Gaustad is an American-born professional ice hockey player who is an alternate
captain for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League. He was drafted in the 7th
round in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. In 2005, he secured a starting position with the
Buffalo Sabres, where he played the power forward role. On February 7, 2007, he
suffered from a cut tendon after colliding with Dany Heatley. He did manage to recover
ahead of schedule and joined the Sabres in their 2007 postseason run. After registering
36 points in the 2007-08 season, he re-signed with the Sabres for a 4-year contract
extension.
On the ice, he is very popular among fans, mostly because of his gritty play. He is often
productive in front of the net because of his large frame.
